Jordan Veretout had never failed to convert a penalty in the Roma jersey until last month, now he has seen two in a row saved.
The midfielder saw his perfect record from the spot ruined during the 1-0 defeat to Juventus on October 17, as Wojciech Szczesny parried the kick.
He tried to put that disappointment behind him and stepped up again during this evening’s Europa Conference League match with Zorya Luhansk at the Stadio Olimpico.
However, that too was saved by goalkeeper Dmytro Matsapura after Carles Perez was brought down.
It’s a total turnaround in fortunes for the France international, as before the Juventus game, Veretout had converted all 13 penalties taken in the Roma jersey.
In his entire career, the Zorya one was only the fourth penalty out of a total 31 that Veretout failed to score.
He was also denied by Andrea Consigli in Fiorentina’s 1-0 defeat to Sassuolo in April 2019 and Salvatore Sirigu when Fiorentina won 2-1 away to Torino in March 2018.
