The Granata had gone behind after just five minutes and haven’t beaten the Nerazzurri home or away since 1994, but took the lead through Riccardo Meggiorini’s brace only for Esteban Cambiasso to equalise.
“This is the result and we can’t do anything about it,” shrugged Ventura. “We put in a fine performance at San Siro, played good football and created numerous scoring opportunities.
“There are some regrets, but even before the game I said the performance was what really counted. Unfortunately we always struggle in the first five minutes of big matches, as we seem to sit there looking at the surroundings.
“Torino are coming off some years that have been tough, so this is Year Zero. We must build a new mentality and do something looking towards the future. We’re no longer living day by day.”
Alessio Cerci seemed irritated when substituted in the second half.
“He told me that he felt good, but he seemed pretty breathless to me. That’s typical Cerci, though. It wouldn’t be him if he didn’t complain and want to play the entire match.”
Meggiorini scored his first Serie A goals since 2008, though he was a surprise pick ahead of Rolando Bianchi.
“Meggiorini was decisive. This year he has been in a bit of a crisis, partly because of the pressure from a group of fans, but you can tell he has found his feet now. After a good performance against Pescara, it seemed only right to reward him. He deserved a game like this.”
