Van Bommel ‘couldn’t say no to Milan’

Mark Van Bommel has told Milan that if they asked him to stay for another season, “I could not say no.”

The 34-year-old joined from Bayern Munich in January for the final six months of his contract and is one of several players yet to negotiate a new deal.

“I am very happy here, but it's not up to me. The decision is the club's to make,” Van Bommel told Calcio 2000.

The 34-year-old joined from Bayern Munich in January for the final six months of his contract and is one of several players yet to negotiate a new deal.

“I am very happy here, but it's not up to me. The decision is the club's to make,” Van Bommel told Calcio 2000.

“If they asked me to stay, then I could not say no to Milan. The atmosphere is exceptional here, as we all fight for the same objectives and put the team first ahead of personal interest.

“There are so many great champions and even those who are left on the bench cheer on their teammates. I think a united locker room is crucial for success and Milan definitely have that.”

There had been reports linking Van Bommel with a move to the Premier League.

“I find Serie A to be very entertaining and I am endlessly impressed by the tactical organisation.

“It's true that the referees view things a little differently to what I was used to at the start, so I struggled a little.”
