UEFA are set to investigate a report that a banana was thrown on to the pitch during Italy’s draw with Croatia in Poznan this Thursday.
The allegation, report the BBC, comes from a pitchside photographer at the game, who says he saw a match steward retrieving a banana from the playing surface during the game and that he heard monkey chanting aimed at the Azzurri’s Mario Balotelli.
UEFA are already investigating previous reports of racist chanting from Euro 2012, including from Italy’s previous game in the tournament against Spain.
La Nazionale have also lodged an official complaint to the governing body after their national anthem was booed by opposition supporters before both their Group C games so far.
