Totti to give everything in Basel

Roma captain Francesco Totti has promised to do everything to play against Basel this evening after a one-match suspension ruled him out of Sunday's derby.

The 34-year-old is still angry at being red carded against Lecce at the weekend for a non-existent slap on Ruben Oliveira who was also inexplicably sent off.

Totti had to be restrained as he left the pitch on Saturday such was the sense of injustice he felt at the referee's decision.

Now that he is out of the Lazio game, he has promised to try and recover in time for this evening's Champions League tie in Switzerland.

Totti has been suffering from a back problem and initially it appeared unlikely that he would start the match in Basel.

"I didn't even deserve a one-match ban," Totti said. "I did nothing to deserve the red card so much so that I thought about coming into the Press Conference to talk about it, but then I understood that it was better not to do so.

"Seeing that I will have to miss the derby, I will now do everything to play against Basel.

"I will do the physiotherapy until the last moment because I want to be there.

"The Champions League is too important for us," he concluded.
