Francesco Totti says everyone is expecting a great Roma this year, and that he is not ruling out aiming for the League, Champions League and Coppa Italia.

The Giallorossi are seen as strong enough to engage Juventus in a season-long Scudetto challenge, whilst also maintaining the squad depth to make a go of their return to the Champions League.

Ahead of a second match in the latter competition this evening away to Manchester City, the team’s captain reflected on expectation this term.

“Everyone was expecting the same start at last year,” Totti has told BeinSport this week.

“We are playing in huge games, we have a great group, important players were purchased and we have a competitive squad.

“We want to do well in Europe and we will do our utmost. The fans and journalists expect a great Roma, too.

“Our objectives? The Scudetto, the Champions League, but also the Coppa Italia, which seems less important but it is always a competition, it is always a Cup.

“The return to the Champions League has been exciting, whilst in Rome it has a different value.

“From the onset [against CSKA Moscow] we knew we faced a difficult game on paper. But, in the end, on the field things proved much simpler.

“In the end, the field will determine things.”

Totti was asked specifically about the title race and chose to put pressure on Max Allegri’s Bianconeri.

“Juventus are the defending champions, they have not sold anyone, they have reinforced their squad.

“We are at this moment the second team, Juve are the ones to beat, although we know we have great potential.”
