Toro secure play-off place

Torino are through to the Europa League play-off round after coasting to a 4-0 win over Swedish side Brommapojkarna.

The Granata came into this third round qualifying second leg on the back of a 3-0 away success last week, meaning they were virtually assured of progression prior to kick-off tonight. Matteo Darmian was passed fit after missing the first leg, though key man Alessio Cerci was not risked.

The Granata came into this third round qualifying second leg on the back of a 3-0 away success last week, meaning they were virtually assured of progression prior to kick-off tonight. Matteo Darmian was passed fit after missing the first leg, though key man Alessio Cerci was not risked.

Any remote possibility that the Swedes may have had of working their way back into the tie was snuffed out in just the third minute. Defender Kristinn Jonsson put the ball into the back of his own net to give Toro a 4-0 aggregate lead.

Full-back Darmian, one of Italy’s shining lights at a disappointing World Cup for the Azzurri, then made it two on the night not long before half time.

An 80th minute penalty by Fabio Quagliarella was followed by Josef Martinez’s late strike as two of the club’s new signings got on the score sheet after coming off the bench.

All in all, it was a comfortable night’s work for Giampiero Ventura’s team, who will now take their place in tomorrow’s play-off draw alongside Inter.
