Torino and Salernitana recreate reverse fixture in Serie A first since 1968-69

Torino and Salernitana played out a remarkable 1-1 draw because it was an exact replica of the reverse fixture, including the same scorers, which hadn’t happened in Serie A since the 1968-69 campaign.

When these teams first met at the Stadio Arechi back on January 8, it ended 1-1 with Antonio Sanabria opening the scoring, cancelled out by Tonny Vilhena.

This afternoon the squads met again at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino and it was another 1-1 result, with Vilhena who was on target first and Sanabria grabbing the equaliser for the hosts.

To add to the mirror effect, both Vilhena and Sanabria regularly go by the first name Tonny.

Looking back over the Serie A history books, the last time we had an exact replica of the reverse fixture with the same result and scorers was all the way back in the 1968-69 season.

Cagliari and Fiorentina played out a pair of 1-1 draws, in Sardinia and Tuscany, both with Gigi Riva and Mario Maraschi on target.
