The Gazzetta dello Sport is one of a number of outlets running quotes from Vice-President Adriano Galliani confirming that the Brazilian centre-back will not be sold to Paris Saint-Germain for €42m, after President Silvio Berlusconi refused to counter-sign the deal.
“The prayers for Berlusconi to keep Thiago? Sometimes prayers work, the President wants to keep him,” Galliani told reporters today.
The player was on the verge of agreeing to join the French capital outfit on a huge contract worth €7.5m a year, almost double the amount he is currently paid by the Rossoneri. With the deal now set to fall through, the centre-back’s agent has suggested that a better contract is due to the 27-year-old.
“If Milan has no interest in selling Thiago Silva to PSG, then I am certain that the Rossoneri will recognise his value and will make a very big effort to give Thiago a new contract, such as perceived by other players similarly valued today at Milan,” Paulo Tonietto told Tuttomercatoweb on Thursday afternoon.
It is speculated that Silva could be offered as much as €7m a season until 2016 by the Diavolo, taking him to second only in wages at the club to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is on €9m a season.
