Thiago Motta: ‘Proud of Genoa’

Thiago Motta was “proud” of Genoa for holding out when down to nine men in a 2-2 draw with Lecce, but inevitably has regrets over the first half.

The Grifone were 2-0 up at the break through Goran Pandev’s strike from midfield and a Domenico Criscito penalty, but it all fell apart in the final 25 minutes.

“We did very well in the first half and could’ve scored a few more goals,” the coach told DAZN.

“I am proud of the way my lads fought hard when we were down to nine men and I feel we emerge stronger from this game.

“It was another strong response from the squad, remaining united and focused until the end. We even had chances to win it when down to 10 men.

“Obviously, it all becomes more difficult with nine against 11, but we did really well to hold out.”
