Theo Hernandez admits he didn’t defend well when he arrived at Milan and explains the secrets behind the Rossoneri title win last season.
The France international joined the Rossoneri on a permanent €20m deal from Real Madrid in 2019 and quickly became a regular starter at San Siro.
“When I arrived, I didn’t defend well, now I’ve improved but I can do even more,” he told Rivista Undici, as quoted by Calciomercato.com.
“I am really happy, fans love me, the team is strong, and we can work well.”
Theo signed a new contract with Milan this past February, extending his stay at the club until June 2026. The Rossoneri have lost three games in the opening 11 across all competitions this season, but are just three points behind Serie A leaders Napoli and are in race to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16.
“My teammates and I want to make history at Milan,” said the France defender. “We have started the new season well and we want to continue, the fans are always helping us.
“The group is important, we have an incredible team, with strong players. We are all true friends. We are young, but not too young, so we are all improving as players and as a team. That’s why won the title last season: we worked well together and the coach helped us.”
Theo’s life has changed at Milan, on and off the pitch. The 25-year-old’s first son was born in Milan this past April, months before the Diavoli’s title win.
“I’d like Theo Jr. to become a sportsman, but he is still too little,” said Theo.
“He is only five months old. He is the best thing in the world. Becoming a father puts you at peace with the universe. I live a simple life. I play football and I stay with him.”
Theo has scored 21 goals and delivered 25 assists in 131 appearances across all competitions with the Rossoneri.
