Milan assistant manager Mauro Tassotti explained why M’Baye Niang starts rather than Stephan El Shaarawy.
The striker hadn’t started a Serie A match since facing Verona almost a year and a half ago, but is picked for the XI against Torino this evening.
“Niang deserves a chance and we’ve been considering this for a while. El Shaarawy had a few fitness problems after the Sassuolo game, though he is ready to come off the bench,” Tassotti told Sky Sport Italia.

Mattia De Sciglio has been struggling recently and moves to his favoured right-back role for this game.
“I personally think Mattia is a right-back and he can give his best in that position. He can adapt to the left-back role, but naturally he’s more at home on the right and in those situations playing with your natural foot can help a great deal.”
Milan were beaten 2-1 by Sassuolo on Tuesday and Tassotti blames a lack of focus.
“We need more concentration when controlling the ball and when we conceded the first goal against Sassuolo, it was thanks to a misplaced pass under no real pressure.”
