Tassotti: ‘Milan deflate Inter’

Former Milan assistant manager Mauro Tassotti said they need to “stop Inter building enthusiasm” in the Derby.

The ex-defender is still employed by the club, as he has been his entire adult life, but now as a scout in charge of co-ordinating players out on loan.

“We knew the start of the season would be difficult. The defeat to Fiorentina was made worse by Rodrigo Ely’s red card, while against Empoli the team struggled to get its style in order,” Tassotti told Milan Channel.

“When it comes to the Derby, a Coach doesn’t need to work in order to get his players concentrated. That comes by itself.

“There is a magical atmosphere at San Siro for both Milan and Inter. The great thing about this city derby is that the different sets of fans arrive at the stadium together, something that probably only happens in Milan.

“The teams have changed a great deal over the summer. Inter have six points from two games, but were probably aided by an easier start to the fixture list.

“Milan must try to slow them down, otherwise they’ll start building that enthusiasm and confidence. Milan can do it, as they have the quality it takes to win this match.”

Tassotti was asked what defence Sinisa Mihajlovic will choose, as Ely returns from suspension and Mattia De Sciglio has rediscovered his fitness.

“I don’t know if Mihajlovic will opt for experience. De Sciglio works well and if in good shape physically will be a great success.

“In my view, he plays better on the right, but I understand the difficulty of leaving out a great player like Ignazio Abate.”
