The day has been dominated by the Brazilian midfielder, who burst into tears when leaving a training session this afternoon and had to be comforted by fans.

“Hernanes? We made our proposal for a contract renewal, now it’s up to him to choose,” Tare told Sky Sport Italia as he arrived in Milan.

“We have not reached a deal with Inter. Are we close? No.”

There are reports Hernanes has already agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri for wages that will rise to €3.7m per season including performance-related bonuses.

It is also rumoured he left Rome this evening via train to reach Milan, where he will undergo a medical ahead of the last details.

The problem therefore is the transfer fee, but the latest rumours suggest Inter could close a deal for €15m cash.

Only a few days ago Lazio President Claudio Lotito scoffed at a reported €17m offer, insisting “they could buy his left boot for that.”
