In order to reach the Round of 32, the Biancocelesti must beat Rennes and hope already-qualified Celtic get the better of Cluj.

“We’ll be embarrassed if we think about them and don’t win our game. So we have to focus first and foremost on our result, which is difficult, then hope Celtic do their duty,” the director of sport told Sky Sport Italia.

Some have pointed out Lazio might be happy at missing out on the Europa League so they can put even more focus into their Serie A push for a top four finish.

“I heard many comments that I didn’t like this week regarding the value of this squad, ambitions and objectives. We have to take it one game at a time, because going forward in the Europa League would only be positive for this club and squad.”
