Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha revealed his thoughts ahead of the decisive last-gasp penalty save on Paulo Dybala at the Juventus Stadium.
Ciro Immobile’s brace had wiped out a Douglas Costa opener when Patric brought down Federico Bernardeschi deep into stoppages, so La Joya stepped up to the spot.
“I was really upset when they awarded the penalty, because it was the 94th minute and Juve didn’t deserve an equaliser,” Strakosha told reporters in the mixed zone following the 2-1 victory.
“Along with the staff, we had studied Dybala’s penalties and figured he would go to the right side. I had also spoken to my father (former Albania international goalkeeper Foto Strakosha) and finally got to save a penalty.
“At those moments, all sorts of things go through your mind and God helped me to save it. This was one of the top five saves in my career.
“The team had fought so hard for the win that I felt I absolutely needed to save it, because it would’ve been a real shame to only get a point out of it.
“We’ve got to keep our feet on the ground and prove ourselves again every time, because all it takes is one bad game and everything changes.”
Curiously, Dybala has seen two penalties saved by Albanian goalkeepers – Atalanta’s Etrit Berisha and Strakosha of Lazio.
