Maarten Stekelenburg is looking forward to a Roma reunion in the Europa League quarter-final, but assures they ‘won’t be happy to face Ajax.’
The goalkeeper is 38 years old, but still first choice shot-stopper for the Dutch giants after Andre Onana’s suspension.
“I didn’t expect to be in this position, certainly not when I returned to Ajax at the start of the season,” Stekelenburg told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I didn’t expect to be in this position, certainly not when I returned to Ajax at the start of the season,” Stekelenburg told Tuttomercatoweb.
“It’s wonderful, although disappointing for Andre, as nobody thought something would happen to him.”
He wore the Roma gloves from 2011-13, making 55 competitive appearances for the club, and will now meet them as an opponent.
“It’ll be great to see my old club, even though I played there eight years ago. I think Roma won’t be happy to face Ajax in the draw, though.”
The first leg of the Europa League quarter-final is in Amsterdam on April 8, with the return in Rome on April 15.
