Stankovic ‘in pole position’ for Samp job

Inter legend Dejan Stankovic is reportedly in pole position to replace Claudio Ranieri at Sampdoria next season.

The former Leicester City coach will see his Sampdoria contract expire in June. According to several reports in Italy, he will leave the club as he’s not on good terms with President Massimo Ferrero.

“I’ve never been in a rush to sign a new contract. I’m not pushing for it. I go to the pitch and work. It’s the thing I like doing the most,” Ranieri said in February.

As per Il Secolo XIX, Stankovic is the leading candidate to replace the Italian tactician in 2021-22.

The current Red Star coach reportedly met Ferrero in Rome earlier this month.

The meeting was organised by Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, a close friend of Stankovic and one of his former teammates at Inter.

Ferrero held a second meeting with Stankovic’s agent Fali Ramadani in Milan earlier this week and the former midfielder currently in pole position to take at the club in the summer.
