Zenit boss Luciano Spalletti has admitted that his side can’t afford to lose to Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Having suffered a 3-0 reverse to Malaga in their opening group game, the Italian tactician knows that his side can’t afford any more false moves.

“The tie against Milan is the game of the year for us, we cannot fail, otherwise we risk not qualifying for the next round,” he stated. “If we play to our best we can beat anyone.”

The Diavolo have had a problematic start to the season, but Spalletti is refusing to underestimate a side bossed by Massimiliano Allegri.

“At the moment Milan are somewhat like us because they are also struggling a little and playing below their potential, but this competition can make you rediscover your best form,” he added.

“Allegri is a quality Coach, he is creative and he has confidence in the job that he is doing. He has maintained the same defining characteristics he had as a player also as a Coach.

“My team has a lot of character and they know how to react to certain situations. We have to be aggressive and score goals.

“Nobody has taken our place in the Russian League, we are still Zenit. That is why it is such an important game against Milan because we got it all wrong against Malaga.”
