Spal Coach Leonardo Semplici noted it was no coincidence a quarter of the Serie A sides this season have a Tuscan tactician at the helm.
“I compliment Semplici for what he created, but also all the others who managed to take this club back into Serie A for the first time since I was a child and collected Panini stickers.
“There are a few advantages to being from Tuscany, as there is always rivalry even between neighbourhoods and you are in constant challenges. There are also many clubs there and a good opportunity to gain experience.

“We all contribute. Nobody might remember Roberto Gagliardini’s tackles, but if there are no tackles, you cannot set up a goal. We’ve got to find out what kind of team we are and what we’re going to create. If a player thinks he can give 10, I want him to give 12 or at least never dip below his maximum threshold.
“There is a very long way to go. Don’t forget, we’re not on the tarmac preparing to get on the plane for a Champions League fixture – we’re at home with our feet up watching on TV.”
This week, Ivan Perisic signed a new contract with Inter, resisting offers from Manchester United and Chelsea.
“The club did well, as we consider Perisic to be a great player and a great guy,” continued Spalletti.
“They created this sense of calm, as they consider him a future captain of Inter. Ivan has incredible quality, he always stays behind in the evening to do extra training work in the gym. We expect a lot from him, he is the complete player on both flanks. We saw a tape where he sprinted 100 metres just to help out a teammate.
“We expect to see more of that sort of thing.”
