Spalletti confronts Edo De Laurentiis, Napoli target Gasperini

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti confronted vice president Edoardo De Laurentiis on Sunday and the structure of the training retreat has now changed while Gian Piero Gasperini has become the latest candidate for the job at the Stadio Maradona.

The Partenopei suffered a 3-2 loss at Empoli on Sunday, conceding three goals in the last ten minutes. Napoli had announced a permanent training retreat beginning today, but that has changed already, given that players will work at Castel Volturno, return home, and then regroup again for team dinners.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Spalletti didn’t agree with the training retreat imposed by the club and confronted vice president Edoardo De Laurentiis on the way back to Naples from Tuscany on Sunday.

According to the report, Napoli partially changed their mind on the training retreat also due to difficulties in finding hotels that would welcome the whole team as Naples is full of tourists during these days of public holidays in Italy.

Meantime, President Aurelio De Laurentiis is considering the future of Spalletti and will make a decision at the end of the season. There’s fear that the coach can no longer handle the team, but sacking him after just one season would cost Napoli circa €6m.

The Tuscan tactician signed a two-year deal last summer with an option to extend for two more seasons. Roberto De Zerbi and Vincenzo Italiano have been linked with the Napoli job, but Gian Piero Gasperini is also a candidate for the role if Spalletti is sacked at the end of the campaign.
