Paulo Sousa insists Fiorentina “can compete for the Scudetto” after going top with a 4-1 thumping of Frosinone.
The Viola are joint leaders with Inter and can be joined by Napoli if they win this afternoon.
“I got angry that we conceded a goal at the end, as I asked the team to remain focused and control the match,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.
“In order to dominate the play both attacking and defending, we must be dominant in possession. We must have absolute control of the ball and fortunately we have good passers.
“This is a situation we are continuing to work on, even if every opponent provides different difficulties to deal with.
“I have always said we can compete with anyone and that means we can compete for the Scudetto. We must always be competitive and I believe our Scudetto must be continually seeking a winning mentality.
“In order to go all the way, we need to always have the idea of dominating games. If we do this, we can compete to the end.”
Sousa gave 20-year-old goalkeeper Luca Lezzerini his Serie A debut today.
“These are moments that in the mind of a player must remain completely positive. I saw Lezzerini had great character, he talked to his defence a lot and I am happy with that choice.”
