Sottil: ‘I didn’t hesitate to join Cagliari’

Riccardo Sottil revealed he was convinced to join Cagliari by Eusebio Di Francesco. ‘For a young player, it’s important to have a coach like him’.

The 21-year-old moved from Fiorentina on loan with an option to buy and looks forward to start his new chapter with the Casteddu.

“As soon as I heard about Cagliari, I didn’t hesitate to come here,” Sottil told the club’s official website.

“It’s a glorious place, with a lot of passion and I was shown a lot of affection upon my arrival at the airport.

“It was a nice and unexpected welcome. I’m very excited and I can’t wait to start playing in these colours.”

Sottil hopes he can contribute in 2020-21 and claimed his high pace is one of his biggest strengths.

“I’m an attacking winger, I can play on both sides. I also played in different roles, as a playmaker or second striker.

“My strengths are dribbling and acceleration.”

Sottil, who appeared 18 times for the Viola last term, has met his new teammates and hopes to learn from the recognised players in the squad.

“I’ve known them for a day and a half, but I already knew them because they are big names. Excellent players, from [Giovanni] Simeone to [Leonardo] Pavoletti and Joao Pedro, players who have more experience than me.

“I will try to steal their best things and put them in my drawer.”

The young winger admitted he was attracted by coach Di Francesco’s 4-3-3 formation.

“Among the things that convinced me to come here was the coach. He proposes attacking football, he always wants to play.

“He starts from the back and for a young player, it’s very important to have a coach like him, to help you develop. The main objective is to make my qualities available to the coach and the team.”
