Simeone: ‘Catania will survive’

Catania's new boss Diego Simeone believes that last night's 1-1 draw away to Cesena is a step on the road to survival in Serie A.

Maxi Lopez gave the Sicilian side an early lead with a strike in the eighth minute only for Luis Jimenez to cancel out their advantage before half-time.

It was Simeone's first point in charge of Catania in three matches. He is still without a win and travels to Bologna on Sunday with the intention to break his duck.

"The spirit that Catania showed on the pitch against Cesena is the right one to survive," he said.

"Catania went out on the pitch to win. We could have done more damage with our tactic of using many attacking players.

"The first 30 minutes were good, then we started to lose the ball and Cesena began to play very well.

"In the second half we went close to victory with many counterattacks. We were lacking the final ball to put someone through on goal."
