It is now a two-horse race for the Swiss international, as Juventus pulled out in order to target Wesley Sneijder of Galatasaray instead.

According to today’s editions of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport, Inter are now clear in front.

This is purely because of the player’s preference, as Inter would offer to take Shaqiri on loan for six months with a mandatory buy-out clause at the end of the season.

Liverpool are prepared to pay the €14m upfront, but Bayern are not exactly strapped for cash and can therefore afford to wait.

Shaqiri’s intentions could therefore be the deciding factor and all the Italian media seem certain he prefers San Siro to Anfield.

The recent arrival of Lukas Podolski from Arsenal – another loan with option to buy – also boosted the Nerazzurri’s standing.

Coach Roberto Mancini is aiming to attract more quality players to the squad after replacing sacked Coach Walter Mazzarri in November.
