Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali effectively confirms West Ham United have out-bid PSG for Gianluca Scamacca, but warns ‘nothing is certain and we are not forced to sell.’
The Italy international is hot property on the transfer market this summer after an impressive Serie A campaign, followed by his first senior caps for the Azzurri.
He had seemed to be on the verge of a move to PSG, but West Ham suddenly dived in with a superior proposal, although neither have yet reached the €50m asking price.
“Nothing is certain,” Carnevali told Sky Sport Italia.
The director of sport was asked specifically about the reports that West Ham United are offering €40m, whereas Paris Saint-Germain are stopping at a maximum of €35m.
“Yes, there are also some bonuses that are different, but there are issues that are not strictly financial, they are tied to the technical project and what the player wants.
“What we can say for certain is that we are not a club who are forced to sell, so we need to listen to the needs of the player, to the offers that come in and that could come in from one day to the next.”
Scamacca is 23 years old and scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A appearances last season.
Sassuolo also have to take into account the fact they owe PSV Eindhoven 10 per cent of the sell-on fee as part of his €500,000 move in January 2017.
