Sarri: ‘No emotional bond with Juventus’

Maurizio Sarri explains why he does not have much of an ‘emotional bond’ with Juventus despite winning the Scudetto here, outlining what he wants to see from Lazio today.

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT).

“International weeks are always odd, we got to work with a few of the new players, but for match preparation we were unable to do anything at all until Thursday,” Sarri told DAZN.

He has chosen the same starting XI that earned an impressive 2-1 victory away to Napoli, despite the upcoming Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, as the coach proves again he is no fan of squad rotation.

“At this moment we need to find our shape, so tactical organisation is an imperative, then over the next few games we will be forced to change a few things.

“I do expect to see a team play with the same level of humility as Napoli.”

Lazio had started the season with back-to-back defeats against Lecce and Genoa, only to then stun reigning champions Napoli at the Stadio Maradona.

Sarri returns to the Allianz Juventus Stadium, where he won the only Scudetto of his career, but fully admits he does not have the same attachment to the Old Lady that he did with Napoli.

“To be honest, I feel emotion returning to Napoli, but here I was only for one season and most of that was behind closed doors. So naturally I have less of an emotional bond to Juventus.”
