Sarri: ‘Milan and Roma talks’

Maurizio Sarri explains why he left Empoli, confirming “advanced talks” with Milan and Roma.

The Coach resigned from his position at Empoli this morning, having taken them to promotion from Serie B and then safety in the top flight.

“We reached the apex with Empoli. You can’t really top that, so there was no point carrying on. As of today, I am free,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.

His comments on approaches from other clubs included a surprising revelation that will be a worry for Rudi Garcia.

“I had some advanced talks with Milan and also spoke to Roma. I am ready to get back out there and if a big club were to call, I’d be ready.”

Napoli have also been linked with Sarri after Rafa Benitez went to Real Madrid.

“Was President Aurelio De Laurentiis won over by me? As far as I know he was won over by Mirko Valdifiori!”

Empoli midfielder Valdifiori is known to be a transfer target for the Partenopei.
