Maurizio Sarri reveals how he motivated Gonzalo Higuain. “I told him he was too lazy to be the best in the world.”
The Napoli striker was reportedly ready to leave over the summer, but was convinced to remain by the new Coach and has scored nine goals in his last 10 games.
“What did I say to Higuain in pre-season? I told him he was too lazy and if he didn’t change his attitude he’d never become the best centre-forward in the world,” Sarri explained to Sky Sport Italia.

“What did I say to Higuain in pre-season? I told him he was too lazy and if he didn’t change his attitude he’d never become the best centre-forward in the world,” Sarri explained to Sky Sport Italia.
“He in part agreed with that consideration, as he couldn’t get 100 per cent out of his capabilities.
“We spoke clearly, so this turned into an honest and direct rapport that probably helps motivate him.”
Former Empoli boss Sarri, who is in only his second Serie A season as a Coach, has similar conversations with his defenders.
“Raul Albiol is improving game by game and so is Kalidou Koulibaly, though they still need to do better when it comes to defending the pitch after the opposition goes deep.”
