Maurizio Sarri had a positive meeting with Lazio directors today, but he is by no means the only option to replace Simone Inzaghi.

According to Sportitalia and Tuttomercatoweb, Sarri spoke to director Igli Tare and President Claudio Lotito today, discussing the moves needed to adapt the current squad to his 4-3-3 tactics.

It’s reported the Sarri option is intriguing, and has certainly impressed the fans, who filled social media with cigarette memes and emojis to reference his famous smoking habit.

However, there are definitely problems, not least the €2.5m per season wages on offer compared to the €4m demand.

The same reports also note that Lazio have contacted Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano to ask about his availability.

Andre Villas Boas had been due to fly in this morning for talks, but seemingly cancelled the trip, perhaps after learning he was not first choice.

Nuno Espirito Santo of Wolves is another potential candidate for the Lazio job.
