“Until June I won’t move away from here, I’m grateful to this club," Saponara told Tuttosport.

“Then who knows, I still see myself in Serie A because this is a league that I like a lot, but I can’t exclude an experience abroad.”

The 24-year-old also reflected on his disappointing spell at Milan and recovery since joining the Tuscany-based side in Serie B.

“After a really difficult season and a half, I’m back to the player I was in Serie B in the two years from 2011-2013,” Saponara explained.

“The national team is a consequence of what I’ve managed to show at Empoli, but I feel I can develop further.

"I don’t consider my 18 months with the Rossoneri a failure, but if I had to find a culprit I’d say myself. The responsibility for how things went is mine.”
