“My Dad always told me how beautiful Italy was,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “And it's true. The people are warm – you have the sea, the food is better and the football is fantastic.

“I've always said I'm glad for what Germany gave me, but it is my dream to play for the Italian national team.”
