Giuseppe Sannino cannot understand the criticism being levelled at Roma forward Mattia Destro, who he reflects he acted like a father towards last year.
Sannino had Destro up front in his Siena team for 2011-12 and oversaw the striker’s return of 12 League goals and subsequent rise to prominence.
Destro moved on to Roma, as Sannino did to Palermo, briefly, but the youngster has struggled for similar form in the capital and matched his first goal for the Giallorossi with a red card.

“I do not understand the criticism against him – he has always provided a good performance even if he has not scored,” Sannino reflected today to reporters, in defence of the 21-year-old.
“When I had him with me at Siena, I was for him like a father. I knew that he would be under a lot of pressure, he became one of the men of the transfer market and much is expected of him.
“We must remember, however, that he is only 21 years old. We must give him time, I’m sure that he will then be talked about.”
