Sampdoria boss Delio Rossi has insisted that the club's only aim this season is to avoid relegation.

The Bluerchiati are currently 12th in Serie A, eight points clear of Siena in 17th place. But the 52-year-old has claimed that the team are only thinking of avoiding the drop.

“The sooner we can get to 40 points the sooner we can get this burden off our shoulders,” he told the League's official Facebook page.

“Our main aim is to avoid relegation – that's it. For now, the fact is that we are in the bottom half of the table, but I hope that over time, through hard work, we can get into the top half.

“The lads have been great since I arrived here [in November]. But only now are my ideas being transmitted properly.”
