Sampdoria are in mourning after the death of their Scudetto-winning director of sport Paolo Borea.
Director of sport at the club from 1982 to 1997, who also worked at Spal, Bologna, Ternana and Modena, the 77-year-old died today.
The staff of that legendary Scudetto side of 1991 is mostly gone now, as Coach Vujadin Boskov died earlier this year and President Paolo Mantovani passed away in October 1993.
“Another piece of Sampdoria history has gone,” said current Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, who joined Samp as a player in 1994.
“We had three wonderful years together and I really cared about him. He was an important person in my life’s journey who I always respected, both as a director and a man.
“Borea was a great gentleman and a sage of football, the kind you just don’t see anymore. With Boskov he was one of the main men responsible for those Samp trophies.
“I send his family my most heartfelt condolences. I’ll miss him, as will all Sampdoriani.”
