Sampdoria director Carlo Osti explained the Niklas Moisander swoop and hopes to keep Matias Silvestre.
Today the Blucerchiati announced that Ajax defender Moisander will be joining them from next season after his contract expires.
“He is an important player with a lot of international experience and will really increase the experience level of the squad,” director of sport Osti told Primocanale.
“We worked early thanks also to the fact Sampdoria have had a great campaign. We know that in Italy there used to be many great defenders, but it’s increasingly difficult to find reliable players in that role.”
Moisander isn’t the only reinforcement, as Samp are also eager to make Silvestre’s loan from Inter a permanent move.
“Silvestre is having a great season and we’ll sit round a table to see if we can agree to go forward together. Clearly Samp are not Inter and cannot offer the same economic terms.
“Who will we sign over the summer? First we want to see how we end the campaign. We are in the running for a place in Europe and will try to achieve a target that seemed unthinkable a few months ago.
“A lot will depend on our placement. As usual we will buy and sell, but Sampdoria will continue to be competitive.”
