Samp get Montella all-clear?

There are mixed reports on the Sampdoria situation, as some suggest Fiorentina have given Vincenzo Montella the all-clear.

The club sacked Walter Zenga on Tuesday and Montella was first choice, but he is still under contract with the Viola until June 2017.

Despite firing Montella over the summer, Fiorentina won’t release him for less than €3m, already a discount on his €5m contract clause.

This evening La Gazzetta dello Sport claim a deal has finally been struck and Montella’s appointment at Sampdoria is only a matter of time.

It was fuelled by a tweet from former Samp President Enrico Mantovani earlier today, which read: ‘Vincenzo!!! It was impossible to do better.”

However, other sources pour cold water on these claims and insist there are still problems between the two clubs.

Alternative candidates include Murat Yakin, Francesco Guidolin and Gigi Del Neri.
