Salernitana reportedly have an interest in signing 19-year-old midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea to provide an alternative for coach Paulo Sousa in the middle of the park.

Reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, the Granata are ‘monitoring’ Santos’ situation, although it is likely to be a difficult deal to get done given that the player only joined Chelsea in January and is therefore likely to cost a significant amount.

In fact, this is Santos’ first summer in England given that he returned to Vasco da Gama, the club from whom Chelsea signed him, until the end of the 2022-23 season in March.

Santos recently made his first start in a Chelsea shirt during the 5-0 pre-season friendly win over Wrexham last Thursday, where he partnered former Inter talent and Italy U20 star Cesare Casadei in midfield.

At the time of his signing for Chelsea, South American football expert Tim Vickery told Sky Sports: “He’s a strong, box-to-box midfielder – I don’t think Vasco would have been promoted without him.

“But it (the Premier League) is a big step up. He’s not a player who will be ready for Premier League football yet. He’s only 18 – this is one for the future.”
