Salernitana have made an offer worth €17.6m for Brighton and Hove Albion striker Neal Maupay, according to The Athletic.
The centre-forward turns 26 next month and has joint French-Argentinean nationality.
He has been in England since 2017, moving from Brentford to Brighton in the summer of 2019 for a fee of €16.5m.
Maupay’s contract with Brighton only runs to June 2023 and he does not seem intent on signing a new deal, so a sale would make sense this month.
Salernitana are known to be seeking strikers, confirming they are close to Krzysztof Piatek from Hertha Berlin and want Federico Bonazzoli back after last season’s loan from Sampdoria.
Maupay is far from prolific as a centre-forward, with eight goals in 32 Premier League games last season, eight the year before and 10 in the 2019-20 campaign.
Despite those figures, he was still Brighton’s top scorer in the last three seasons.
Brighton have already done business with Serie A sides, this week selling defender Leo Ostigard to Napoli for €5m plus bonuses.
