Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli explains why Amir Rrahmani of Hellas Verona is the ideal defender for Gennaro Gattuso. “He can man-mark and play out from the back.”
A €14m deal has already been struck in January for the 26-year-old, who remained at Verona on loan for the rest of the season.
“We signed Rrahmani because he is very good at man-marking, but can also play out from the back, which is crucial as far as Rino is concerned,” director of sport Giuntoli told Sky Sport Italia.

“With a coach like Gattuso, who always wants to start moves from the back, we wanted to give him players who were suited to his football ideas.”
There was a transformation of the squad in January after Gattuso took over from sacked Carlo Ancelotti, with Stanislav Lobotka, Diego Demme and Matteo Politano stepping in.
“Gattuso loves a passing game, played between the lines with a three-man midfield, so we got players who are congenial for that approach. We also signed some for the future, as Andrea Petagna is still young and scored 17 goals last season for SPAL.”
