Italy have been given a Euro 2012 boost by the agent of the currently injured Giuseppe Rossi.

The Villarreal striker had become a key player in the first team plans of Azzurri boss Cesare Prandelli over the last 18 months.

However, the former Parma man ruptured knee ligaments recently which required surgery and a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“His recovery is going well,” the American-born player’s agent Federico Pastorello told Mediaset Premium.

“We’re really happy with everything so far.

“He will certainly be ready for the European Championship because he will return to action in April.”

Prandelli has had to re-design his attack after Antonio Cassano, Rossi’s striker partner, was also sidelined as a result of a minor heart operation.

Italy have been drawn against Spain, the Republic of Ireland and Croatia in the group stages of Euro 2012.
