Delio Rossi warned Sampdoria he wants to “see improvement” and his squad strengthened ahead of a Coppa Italia tie with Benevento.
The Blucerchiati will be in action on Saturday night for the Third Round of the Coppa Italia, their first official game of the season.
“We worked a great deal over the last month or so and tomorrow night I expect to see improvement,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
Benevento are in Lega Pro, but earned a surprise 2-0 victory over Serie B side Virtus Lanciano in the Second Round.
“This is the classic game where we have everything to lose, but if we want to improve then we have to face this type of match. In August you risk an upset.
“Benevento are at a more advanced stage of fitness training than we are and already accustomed to fighting for three points this season. It will be our first real game of the season, but we want to go far and do well.
“The Coppa Italia is very important for me. We must honour this competition all the way, as it would be silly to snub a competition that allows you to put a trophy on the mantelpiece.”
Sampdoria have lost several players over the summer and are on the verge of selling goalkeeper Sergio Romero to Monaco for €6m.
“If I wanted to completely transform our style of football, I’d have thrown away six months of work. This is why with the club we decided to bring in quality youngsters and I’d like to have a sparkling side who enjoy their football,” continued Rossi.
“We have players who are honoured to wear the Sampdoria shirt and consider this an important club. Others who didn’t think that have gone elsewhere, even if they were more talented.
“Do we need reinforcements? I have an idea and already expressed it to the club.”
