Several top Spanish sports papers claim Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing for a return to Real Madrid and Juventus are more than happy to let him go for €29m.
Today’s editions of Marca and Diario AS both have CR7 taking up the entire front page.
They both posit that Ronaldo is eager to make a comeback to the Merengues following Juve’s Champions League Round of 16 exit to FC Porto.
However, they also note that Real Madrid aren’t entirely enthusiastic about the idea yet and are trying to find a way to both balance the books and keep the fans happy.
Diario AS maintain Ronaldo has been in contact with Real Madrid over a possible return for several months, so pre-dating the Champions League elimination.
Ronaldo’s contract with Juve only runs to June 2022 and the Bianconeri do not seem intent on extending it.
His €30m per season salary is a huge drain on resources at a time when costs need to be cut and his presence has not made any difference to their poor Champions League record.
The price-tag mentioned in the media has been €29m, but there is a very specific reason for that – it’s the figure that would allow Juventus to avoid a capital loss after his €120m purchase in the summer of 2018.
