Roma to raid Palermo

Roma have their eyes on several Palermo players ahead of this summer's transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The club's prospective new owner Thomas Di Benedetto is expected to bring in Walter Sabatini as Roma's new director of sport.

He made his name at Palermo, signing the likes of Javier Pastore and is known to have a great relationship with several of their players.

The agent of Palermo defender Cesare Bovo told reporters on Monday that Sabatini had been in touch about his client.

Bovo is among the candidates to replace the departing Philippe Mexes, along with former Palermo centre-back Simon Kjaer who current plays for Wolfsburg.

La Gazzetta understands Sabatini is keen on a sensational bid for Pastore, but that will only happen in the unlikely eventuality that Daniele De Rossi leaves for Real Madrid.

Another of his former charges, Uruguay international striker Abel Hernandez is also said to be on Sabatini's shortlist.
