Roma have suddenly announced the immediate termination of their working rapport with Corporate CEO Pietro Berardi, just days after he was named as one of those under investigation for inflated capital gains.
A terse statement was released this evening with no warning, suggesting something happened behind the scenes to prompt this development.
“AS Roma informs that the competent corporate bodies have resolved to terminate, with immediate effect, all the relationships among AS Roma, the Group Companies and Mr. Pietro Berardi.
“The club wishes Pietro all the best for his future endeavors.”
Berardi had been working at the club for two years, taking the role of CEO in October 2021.
He was one of seven former and current Roma directors under investigation as part of a wider look into clubs artificially inflating transfer fees to boost capital gains.
The suggestion put out by the prosecutor in Rome even went so far as to claim some transfers were ‘non-existent’ and created to avoid taxes.
He had meetings only days ago for the on-going Stadio della Roma project with local authorities, so it remains to be seen how this sudden departure will change those talks.
Berardi was also in the stands for last week’s Serie A victory over Torino at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
Before coming to Roma, he had worked as the North American CEO of Pirelli.
