John Heitinga’s agent confirms Roma “are serious candidates” for the Dutch Everton defender.

His contract expires at the end of the season and he has already rejected a move to West Ham this month.

“I am in Holland right now. Roma are evaluating different options and Heitinga is among them,” Robert Janes told calciomercatoweb.it.

“John also has a few alternatives, but he has always had respect for the Giallorossi and we believe they are serious candidates.”

It is also reported that Roma director Walter Sabatini met with Heitinga’s representatives today to set the scene for a future move.

However, he would only be signed after Nicolas Burdisso has found a new club.

The Argentine centre-back declared he wanted to leave Roma in the January transfer window to have more playing time ahead of the World Cup.

Sky Sport Italia claim Burdisso turned down an offer from Norwich, while Olympiacos and Bayer Leverkusen are among the candidates.
