Francesco Totti has admitted that he dreams of becoming the top scorer in Serie A history, although he concedes that will be no easy task.

The Roman last night netted his 225th top-flight goal to join Gunnar Nordahl in second place on the all-time list.

The next target is Silvio Piola, but he netted 274 goals in Serie A – leaving 36-year-old Totti a target of 49 more strikes before he retires.

“Catching Piola doesn’t depend on me,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “It’ll be easier for us to finish in third place this season…

“I’m looking towards Piola even if I know it will be really difficult to reach him. We’ll have to see how I am.

“For now I’ll continue, then I’ll quit once I overtake him,” he smiled.

The Giallorossi captain was able to celebrate in style given that he matched Nordahl’s tally in front of his kids.

“I didn’t expect them to be at the stadium as they had been ill all week,” added the 2006 World Cup winner after the 3-1 win over Genoa.

“It was a beautiful and that hug at the end was an unforgettable moment.”

The children came prepared, seeing as they gave their father a T-shirt with the words: ‘Daddy, you are the best.’

“I don’t know who organised that shirt,” Totti added. “It was impromptu, done without my knowledge.”
