Roma are looking for a new midfielder and they’re keeping a close eye on Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez.
The 27-year-old Spaniard spent last season on loan at Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea but he failed to break into the first team, making only five Premier League starts. After a disappointing 12 months, Saul has returned to the Spanish capital, but another departure this summer seems likely.
As reported by Il Messaggero, Roma are incredibly keen to strengthen Jose Mourinho’s midfield this summer but talks with Sassuolo for Davide Frattesi are at a complete standstill, forcing them to consider other options.
One player that the Giallorossi are keeping an eye on is Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, and they’ve also started keeping tabs on Saul now as well, who could possibly be signed on a loan deal.
The 27-year-old Spanish midfielder’s contract expires in 2026, so a definitive transfer may be relatively costly. Talks with Frattesi are also still ongoing for the time being.
