‘Roma game not crucial for Spal’

Spal President Walter Mattioli promises “we’ll play our game” at Roma but “it’s not the kind of game we need to get points in to stay up”.

The Giallorossi are seven points off the top of Serie A, with a game in hand, and they welcome the newly-promoted Spallini to the capital on Friday evening.

“Spal will play our game at Roma, but it’s not the kind of game we need to get points in to stay up,” Mattioli told reporters, as reported by RomaNews.

“The ones after that with Benevento and Verona will be important.”

Mattioli also discussed the Coppa Italia defeat to Cittadella, and did not go easy on his team.

“I was expecting a different game, especially after the second half against Verona. Cittadella will become an excellent team, but the fact is they’re a Serie B team and they had youngsters.

“We had our first shot on goal in the 92nd minute, it’s unthinkable for us not to win these games.”
