Sousa has publicly admitted his interest in the job, but he appears to be in like to replace Mark Hughes at Southampton.

As a result, reports CalcioNews24, Montella’s name has come up as a potential replacement, ahead of Roberto Donadoni and Antonio Conte, the latter of whom would probably be too expensive.

The former striker won the Scudetto with the Lupi in 2001, and is a free agent after being sacked by Sevilla.

Montella began his coaching career with Roma, taking charge of 16 games as caretaker in 2011.
